River Ranch Resort

The River Road Ranch Resort is located on a 30-acre working ranch in Gillespie County just minutes from downtown Fredericksburg, TX in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Originally settled by the Metzger family in 1876, the ranch features beautiful Pedernales River frontage, century-old oak trees, and a variety of domestic animals and wildlife. The original hand-quarried stone house was erected in 1876 and at one point in its history, Admiral Chester Nimitz as a child played on its front porch. The house was restored by the present owners in 2007.

The ranch has remained true to its origins while keeping up with the 21st century. Antique farm equipment, chuckwagons, buggies, and surreys are all displayed in their original settings and offer guests unique picture taking opportunities and history lessons. The ranch is also home to two retired rodeo horses, an alpaca, sheet and goats, three miniature donkeys, guinea hens, chickens, and roosters, and a very proud male peacock. All animals are very tame and love to interact with the guests, and guests are encouraged to join them at feeding time.
